Colorado State University is Hiring an Equipment operator Near Fort Collins, CO

Operates and performs heavy equipment, light equipment, and onsite labor in execution of Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) projects for the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) program as part of the Sustainable Range Program at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Specific areas of responsibility are listed below in the Essential Job Duties section. Required Job Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or equivalent
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as agricultural farm tractors and implements (loader, disk, rotary cutter, planter, spreader, auger, bush hog, shredder, etc.

bulldozer, skid steer with attachments, forklift, transport and dump type trucks, all-terrain vehicles, trenchers, backhoes, graders, excavators, forestry mulcher, and loaders

  • Experience with performing operational, routine, and operator maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment, light equipment, and hand-held power and manual tools
  • Ability to read and navigate using maps, GIS applications, aerial photographs, compasses, and GPS units
  • Physically able to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions heat and humidity); able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Be able to follow directions, work collectively with others as a team, and maintain safe working standards
  • Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license by the employment start date
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position

  • Experience with wildland / agricultural land rehabilitation, horizontal construction techniques, and erosion control practices in the southeastern using EPA approved Best Management Practices (BMPs) required to achieve compliance with the Clean Water Act (CWA)
  • Possess knowledge of terrain and soil composition in order to determine best approach for equipment
  • Familiar with Fort Stewart, GA installation roads, bridges, and access ways
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working in a highly structured organization and knowledge of Army Instructions, directives, guidance and processes
  • Experience operating personal computer workstations

Essential Duties Job Duty Category Execute day to day field operations of the LRAM Component tasks / projects Duty / Responsibility Perform maintenance, upkeep, and repair of ITAM and Training Division facilities and training lands as directed using manual labor, heavy equipment, light equipment, and hand-held power and manual tools. Tasks include :

Operates heavy equipment such as agricultural farm tractors and implements (loader, disk, rotary cutter, planter, spreader, auger, bush hog, shredder, etc.

bulldozer, skid steer with attachments, forklift, transport and dump type trucks, all-terrain vehicles, trenchers, backhoes, graders, excavators, forestry mulcher, and loaders in support of the ITAM program.

  • Operates riding mower and / or small-to-medium tractor in mowing to reduce fuel hazards and allow cross country military movement and maneuver tasks in training areas with various equipment.
  • Performs manual work functions in the construction, maintenance, and / or repair of training areas and facilities; may move and repair equipment and perform related tasks.
  • Operates lawn edger, weed eaters, and chain saws to trim bushes, shrubs, clear brush, etc.
  • Installs erosion and sediment control measures, seed grass, apply insecticide / herbicide, and perform related tasks; reports on erosion and sediment measures and general land conditions.
  • Performs manual work functions associated with maintaining right-of-ways, ditches, and holding ponds, wetlands, and upland areas which may include trimming trees, removing stumps and debris, mowing grass and performing related tasks.
  • Operates two-way radio in the performance of duties.
  • Performs tasks which primarily require physical abilities and efforts involving little or no specialized skill or prior work experience.
  • Digs, fills, and tamps earth excavations; levels ground using pick, shovel, tamper, and rake; shovels concrete and other materials, cleans culverts and ditches.
  • Moves supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrows, or hand trucks; stacks materials for storage or binning, collect refuse and salvageable materials;

picks up leaves and trash.

  • Loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances.
  • Drives equipment onto trucks / trailers.
  • Monitors recurring maintenance of training resources.
  • Conducts GSWCC (Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission) erosion and sediment control operator actions on all ITAM and Training Division projects as directed.
  • Assists with the acquisition of inventory; picks up and delivers supplies and equipment to / from work sites.
  • Reports to LRAM Lead Equipment Operator for daily guidance in the absence of the LRAM Work Supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Percentage Of Time 75 Job Duty Category Maintenance and upkeep of ITAM equipment and other Training Division equipment assets as directed to include research on parts and costs Duty / Responsibility

  • Performs operational maintenance and inspections on all equipment for operational readiness and safety, makes minor adjustments and performs operator maintenance on equipment operated.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in good working condition such as changing tires, inspecting, greasing, and cleaning equipment, maintaining fluid levels, changing blades, calibrating equipment and performing related tasks.
  • Responsible for operator maintenance on tractors and equipment such as checking and replenishing fluids to proper levels, examining and changing filters, changing and sharpening blades, changing / replacing batteries, lubricating equipment, and making necessary adjustments.

Percentage Of Time 17 Job Duty Category Reporting Duty / Responsibility

Tracks project effort and equipment use daily for monthly / quarterly reporting.

The position defined will fulfill other duties and assignments as necessary to fulfill the mission and sub-missions of the ITAM program and DPTMS as approved by the Installation Point of Contact.
